Dr. Michael V. Galante is a professional forester, specialising in sustainable timber production from tropical forests, forest certification and timber legality assurance, and climate change mitigation strategy and project implementation in the forestry sector.
Michael has developed forest management and harvest plans for various operations throughout Southeast Asia, and supports certification through FSC, PEFC, and ISO 9001 Standards. Michael assists and advises intergovernmental organisations, governments, private companies and NGOs on forest management, certification, legality, and climate change strategy/implementation, including social engagement and development frameworks.
Michael is the co-author and former Secretariat, of the Global Conservation Standard. Michael holds a PhD from the University of Edinburgh where he focused the development of a carbon accounting framework to register reduced-impact logging as a project-based activity under the Climate Convention in Malaysia.
Michael is the founder of Climate Forestry, a specialist forest management organisation with programs of work to support operational forest management, forest certification and legality compliance, and international climate policy and project-based activities to mitigate anthropogenic climate change in the forestry sector.
